Toddlers don’t know WHY they feel a certain way, they just know that they are getting overwhelmed and disregulated, which is why they start to yell and get physical. You can’t make those urges go away by ignoring or punishing them, but you can REDIRECT those urges into positive outlets and start teaching them what emotions they’re feeling so they can better manage them. The way we fund education in America is so incredibly wrong & against the core value of equality of opportunity that we are SUPPOSED to stand for. The fact that the quality of your child’s education is directly related to how nice of an area you live in is disgusting. The demise of the department of education, which is the only way many school districts even begin to make up for this funding gap (not to mention the special education services it funds) is heartbreaking. I just feel so guilty as the parent of a child who already has enormous privilege and advantages that she will continue to have even greater privilege and advantages in life because she gets to attend this particular public elementary school. I agree that the system is broken in many ways, but not in the way republicans are saying it is.
