The electrical system in our van runs on four 100AH(Amp/Hour) 12VDC(Direct Current) Battle Born Lithium batteries that are wired in parallel giving us a total capacity of 400AH at 12V. Most of our outlets, lights and appliances run directly off the batteries at 12 volts through a breaker panel and/or fuse block. For anything that runs on 120VAC(Alternating Current) we invert the power from the batteries with a Victron Multiplus 3kVA Inverter/Charger which is wired to household outlets throughout our van. Each circuit of 120VAC outlets is protected with a 15amp breaker. The Multiplus also allows us to connect to the grid/shore power to run appliances and charge our batteries if necessary. Generally we are able to keep our system charged with solar power as well as the alternator. In order to provide a proper charging algorithm to our lithium batteries we use smart chargers. To get power from the alternator, we wired the starter battery to our house batteries via two Victron Orion XS 12volt/12volt-50Amp DC-DC battery chargers providing around 100amps of charge when the van is running. For passive charging we have a single 400watt solar panel mounted on the roof of the van that feeds through a Victron SmartSolar Charge Controller. We also have two 200watt deployable solar panels that fold up and store easily in the van. We wire these up in series and run them through their own separate charge controller expanding our total solar array to 800watts! These really come in handy when we aren’t doing a lot of driving especially when using our toaster oven and running our Starlink. #vanlife #vanbuild #diyvanbuild #campervan #vanconversion #solarpower
