I had big plans to #livelifebig at Hot Springs National Park, but unfortunately none of them really worked out. I must admit the bath houses really made this park a bit of an odd one, but getting in the bath tub was a delightful highlight of my adventure. Things may not have gone as planned, but I still had a blast. This was my first hike over 8k (the height at which people can experience serious altitude sickness) and I did it 100% alone. The Williams Lake Trail in Taos is technically a 3.7 mile out and back, but if you add in the walk to the trail head and a saunter around the lake you’re looking at more like 5+. This hike literally took me forever to do. I had to keep pausing to allow my body to acclimate because I did not want to get sick from the low oxygen levels. Hiking at 10k+ feet is no joke. Pushing too hard too quickly and failing to keep properly hydrated/fueled could of not only given me altitude sickness, it also could have triggered my autoimmune conditions to flare. Getting to the top by myself was proof that everything I’ve been working to learn and do is starting to open up things I truly could have never imagined I’d be able to do. I have never professionally trained for heavy lifting, so my trainer wanted to assess what my limits are. 3 months post surgery with virtually no heavy lifting training I already have a one rep max of 400 lbs. One of the things I learned during my wellness experience might shock you. I need to eat more. Under the guidance of a nutritionist, this is what a day of eating looked like for me. Lots of protein, bigger portions than I was used to and even snacks. I also felt more capable to do more because my body had the fuel it needed to preform. The biggest take away I took from this is to look at eating as fuel and to not wait until I was on total empty to refuel my tank. #health #SelfCare #food #wellness

Round two of trying to find earbuds that fit well, sound great, and help not get exhaustion while moving and grooving in Austin during the summer. I wanted to try another super affordable option before I jumped up to some of the pricier brands y’all suggested. So I grabbed these JLab Sport+ over the ear buds to test this week. Candidly, I’m beginning to really believe you get what you pay for when picking ear buds. These did not even come close to meeting my needs in terms of sound, comfort or just basic usability. These earbuds did have some nice in app features to support the technology, but it also felt like they should have just invested more in the actual quality of the product. I’d rate these a solid 4/10 and wouldn’t buy them unless you had too. I say that because these feel like the type of headphones you’d be suckered into paying way too much for at an airport after realizing you forgot yours at home. #girlytech #headphones #earbuds #technology

A little lipedema surgery update in honor of  Lipedema Awareness month!  As many of you know, one of the main reasons I pursued surgical treatment for my lipedema is because I was beginning to see a steady and uncontrollable decline of my mobility and an increase in pain. It didn’t matter what training I did, certain things were worsening day by day.  This left me with a body that hurt, felt like cement, and was struggling to move at a time when all I wanted to do was be more active. I had spent so much time reconnecting with my body and working to make it strong and capable. It was so frustrating to see it continue to decline.  I chose to share my story so publicly because stage 4 Lipedema patients are extremely unrepresented in the media coverage of this condition. I have wondered at times if it is because the world is still so uncomfortable with people in bigger bodies. I wish people understood that often stage four patients have what seems like fast track Lipedema. We just start progressing rapidly. Because the condition is misunderstood and unrecognized,  most of us confuse it with normal weight gain, think it’s our fault, and then do all the things to “fix it” that ironically make it worse.  If I help just one woman get diagnosed or feel less alone living with lipedema, then sharing my journey is worth it. #lipedema #chronicillness #healthjourney #progressnotperfection @Advanced Lipedema Treatment

I realized I am type 2 fun person. Type 2 fun is where something kind of sucks to do, but in retrospect is awesome. That’s how I felt about going to Mammoth Caves and doing the domes and drip stones tour. 500 steps downward that I had to take entirely sideways and often suck my body inward to get through. The entire time down I was panicking I would get stuck between to cave walls, they’d have to rescue me and I’d be on the local news as the girl who’s booty was too popping for spelunking. Candidly there is no way in hell I could have done this a year ago. I walked away from this national park with the joy of knowing that my journey had opened the world up to me just a little bit more. #mammothcave #nationalpark #Hiking #positivevibes #livelifebig
