Headed to your menopause or perimenopause appointment? Ask these 3 questions—and pay attention to the answers. 1. Are you willing to discuss hormone therapy? → Red flag if they say no outright, dismiss your symptoms, or bring up outdated fear-mongering about risk. 2. What percentage of your patients are using hormone therapy? → Red flag if they say “almost none”—that likely means they’re not offering it, not that no one needs it. → Red flag if they say “100%”—that suggests a one-size-fits-all approach, which isn’t good medicine either. 3. Which types of hormone therapy do you offer? → Red flag if the only option is pellet therapy. That’s an ethical red flag. Pellets are not FDA-approved, often deliver supraphysiologic doses, and can be expensive and irreversible for months. There are multiple safe, effective, and customizable options—like transdermal estrogen, micronized progesterone, and more. Your care should never be limited to one method. You’re not being difficult. You’re being informed. And that’s powerful. #menopause #perimenopause #drmaryclaire #thenewmenopause #hrt #womenshealth #menopauseadvocate
There’s no shortage of myths about menopause. So let’s set the record straight. I partnered with @axios to cut through the confusion and share what’s actually true—because every woman deserves facts, not fear. Misinformation has held us back for too long. It’s time for science to lead the conversation. Watch the video. Share it. And head to @axios to see how they’re covering the real story of menopause—state by state, and beyond. #menopause #perimenopause #drmaryclaire #thenewmenopause #menopausemyths #truthmatters #womenshealth
You are not lying. And you are not alone. I hear this story all the time: a woman brings her food and exercise logs to her doctor, asking for help. She’s doing everything “right”—eating well, staying active, tracking habits. And instead of support, she’s told, “If this were true, you wouldn’t be fat.” Let me be clear: This is not about willpower. It’s about physiology. During perimenopause and menopause, declining estrogen shifts how our bodies store fat—specifically toward the abdomen. This visceral fat is inflammatory and increases the risk of insulin resistance, heart disease, and more. And here’s what most women aren’t told: 👉 This happens to most women—even those with “perfect” routines 👉 You can’t out-wellness your way past menopause 👉 Your ovaries will fail. It’s not if—it’s when This isn’t a moral failing. It’s biology. And it’s time for the shaming to stop. I’ve seen it in my clinical practice too many times—women being dismissed, not believed, and left to feel broken. You’re not broken. You’re transforming. Women deserve real answers. Real support. Real science. 📚 The research backs this. 🧠 The biology explains this. 💪 And YOU deserve evidence-based care that validates your experience. 👉 Start with our Menopause Empowerment Guide—it’s linked in bio. I’ve spent decades in medicine, and here’s a hard truth I’ve come to realize: medical insurance isn’t designed to keep you well—it’s there to maybe keep you from going bankrupt if you get really sick. And that’s a maybe at best. As a physician, I’ve watched patients delay preventive care, skip essential medications, or avoid follow-ups—not because they don’t care about their health, but because they can’t afford to use the insurance they already pay for. Let’s be clear: medical bills are the #1 cause of bankruptcy in the U.S. Wellness shouldn’t be a luxury. Access shouldn’t depend on crisis. It’s time we talk honestly about what “coverage” really means—and demand better. #menopause #perimenopause #drmaryclaire #thenewmenopause
🚨 Menopause is going mainstream—and Yale just said the quiet part out loud. In a powerful article by Yale undergrad and Women’s Health Fellow Kira Berman, OB/GYN legend Dr. Mary Jane Minkin pulls back the curtain on decades of misinformation, stigma, and silence. 🔍 Key takeaways: — Perimenopause can start 10 years before your final period — Hormone shifts affect your entire body, not just reproduction — Most doctors aren’t trained to recognize it — Hormone therapy is misunderstood, but often life-changing — And yes, the entire system needs an overhaul 👏 A huge thank you to Dr. Minkin for continuing to teach, lead, and advocate—and to Kira Berman for writing the piece we’ve all been waiting for. Menopause is not niche. It’s not invisible. And it’s not going away. It’s time our medical system caught up. #MenopauseAwareness #Perimenopause #DrMaryJaneMinkin #YaleMedicine #TheNewMenopause #WomensHealth #HormoneHealth #MenopauseMatters #WhyDidntIKnowThis #MenopauseEducation

Still trying to find the words… Tonight, my friends and family came together for a menopause watch party (yes, you read that right), and I’m honestly overwhelmed by the love and support in the room. To be surrounded by people who not only show up but celebrate this work — this mission — is something I’ll never take for granted. This journey has been personal, emotional, and at times uphill… but moments like this remind me just how lucky I am. Thank you to my incredible circle. Thank you for standing with me. And thank you to everyone who’s helping rewrite the menopause story — with love, science, and a little bit of fire. #menopause #perimenopause #drmaryclaire #thenewmenopause #menoposse
I’m a menopause expert. I teach this. And still… There were things about my own menopause that shocked me. I wasn’t prepared for the sleep disruption. Or how suddenly alcohol wrecked my night. Or how fast my cholesterol spiked. Or how my joints ached when I got out of bed. Or the unexpected shifts in my mental health. Menopause is not just hot flashes. Swipe through and then check the caption below where I share how I resolved many of these issues. It wasn’t magic. It wasn’t just a prescription. It was approaching my health like a toolkit. Yes, hormone therapy (I’m on a combination that includes Yazmin and estradiol) made a real difference. But so did: • Rebuilding my nutrition — prioritizing protein, plants, and fiber • Replacing cardio-only workouts with resistance training • Prioritizing deep, restorative sleep • Taking evidence-based supplements to support muscle, bone, and brain health • Putting up boundaries and refusing to carry other people’s drama anymore Menopause cracked me open — and in the process, I rebuilt something stronger. 🧰 Tap the link in bio for free resources, downloads, and tools to build your own menopause toolkit. Let’s talk about visceral fat—the kind that builds up around your organs and increases during the menopause transition. This isn’t just about aesthetics. Visceral fat is metabolically active, meaning it contributes to inflammation, insulin resistance, and increases your risk for cardiovascular disease, dementia, and type 2 diabetes. The drop in estrogen during menopause doesn’t just change your periods—it shifts where your body stores fat, making midsection weight gain more likely even if nothing else changes. But here’s the good news: this isn’t inevitable, and it’s not your fault. With the right strategies—nutrition, movement, sleep, stress management, and yes, sometimes hormone therapy—we can absolutely make a difference. This is about health, not just weight. And you deserve real answers. #menopause #perimenopause #drmaryclaire #thenewmenopause #visceralfat #metabolichealth #womenshealth #bellyfat #menopausesupport #inflammation #estrogenmatters
#stitch with @The 'Pause Life Two years ago, I shared my hormone therapy journey—and I’m still on the same core regimen today: a topical estradiol patch plus oral micronized progesterone. But I’ve added a few extras that have made a big difference. I now use vaginal estrogen to prevent the genital urinary syndrome of menopause (GSM), a topical estriol cream on my face and neck for collagen and skin elasticity, and a physiological dose of testosterone to support libido and maintain muscle mass. This is what works for me, and I believe in being transparent. For more information, visit our link in bio and check out the blogs. #menopause #perimenopause #drmaryclaire #thenewmenopause
I received an alert about a new article in Nutrition Journal—a prestigious scientific publication—titled “Navigating Nutrition Through the Decades: Tailoring Dietary Strategies to Women’s Life Stages.” The content? Brilliant. I’ll review that separately. But the imagery? I was stopped in my tracks. The AI-generated graphics showing women at each life stage were a stark reminder of the stigma we’re still up against. The depiction of women in pre-menopause and menopause didn’t feel representative—they felt steeped in shame, outdated stereotypes, and the quiet prejudice we’ve all felt about aging. This is the stigma of menopause. It’s subtle. It’s powerful. And we need to talk about it. What do you think? 🔥 Why does belly fat hit so hard after menopause? “Cortisol toxicity”? Not a diagnosis. It’s a distraction. This viral supplement ad claims your menopause symptoms are caused by stress and hormone “toxicity” — not hormone loss. It’s slick marketing. But it’s not science. Menopause is a hormone deficiency state — not a supplement deficiency. Here’s what I actually recommend to my patients. Backed by decades of clinical experience and peer-reviewed research. If you're tired of the confusion, start with the facts. 📍Learn more about real solutions at thepauselife.com — link in bio.#menopause #perimenopause #drmaryclaire #thenewmenopause #cortisol
