the hormonal acne & inflammation was BAD after coming off hormonal BC. 1. coffee on an empty stomach in the morning (I used to be the coffee queen) - it spikes cortisol & blood sugar (even black coffee), both of which wreck our hormones & skin. Now I eat breakfast with protein, healthy fats & fiber first, and all 3 main meals of the day follow the same formula. 2. skipping meals/eating too little & calling it intermittent fasting. undereating stresses the body & suppresses ovulation. Your body & hormones need fuel - especially protein, healthy fats, fiber & minerals. 3. Using too harsh skincare instead of addressing the root causes. No topical can help to fully heal the acne caused by hormone & gut imbalances, or stress. Now I support my skin from inside out. 4. overtraining & under-recovering. I was HIIT & cardio all the way. For many of us, too much intense workouts raises cortisol & depletes our energy. I switched to cycle syncing my workouts and love it. 5. Ignoring my stress levels. Chronic stress = chronic inflammation + hormone chaos. I started prioritizing nervous system care daily. The mistake I see a lot of people making while losing fat is trying to eat as little as possible. You eat small meals and survive off random handfuls of things throughout the day. But those random handfuls, bites off your kids plates and liquid calories add up. You’d be much better off eating bigger meals and learning WHAT to eat at those meals to properly fuel your body. They’re looking for you.” They showed up at his house asking about me. My heart stopped. My husband is a firefighter for California, it was mid fire season and I thought something had happened to him. Especially since they showed up at his father’s house… a place I’ve never had listed as my address. But no. They were there for me because of a form I had filled out at the clinic earlier. A simple “How happy are you?” type of form. I had asked for help. I had been open to options. But somehow, I was still sent home with all three of my kids. If they truly believed I was in danger… how was that okay? A week later, my therapist looked at me and said, “We don’t really know why people struggle with mental health. We just treat it.” That was the moment I knew I needed to dig deeper. So I started researching. That’s when I found out that the majority of our happy hormones are made in the gut.
